Ubuntu + XGL + Kiba-Dock = Vistas Demise

February 25th, 2007 by George Burnett

If you haven’t been paying too much attention to all the Open Source excitement surrounding the more recent developments to the XGL the X server video architecture then your really missing out.

Here is a quick low down:

XGL is an X server (X Windows) architecture designed to take advantage of modern graphics cards via their OpenGL drivers, layered on top of OpenGL via glitz

Kiba-Dock is a xgl dock with physics. Need I say more?

Combine these 2 amazing advancements with todays most popular Linux distro Ubuntu and you get some serious power. Keep in mind that your graphics card needs to support hardware acceleration in order to get the most out of this wicked combo. Most cards today are capable of handling XGL / Compiz / Glitz and so on…

Without further a due… the ultimate demo video of the above configuration:

How to Install XGL/BERYL for ATI Xpress 200
How to: Kiba-dock
How to: Nvidia 32bit / Compiz / XGL

Have fun and good luck! Im’ off to setup my other lappy with the above config. If only wireless support was better under Linux… Damn you WPA why do you have to be so prevalent?!
